How does solar control film work?

The top window is allowing 87% of total solar energy into the building and with a solar control film this can be reduced to 12%.

The most typical construction is to have a very thin coating of heat rejecting material applied to a thin polyester film with an optically clear and long lasting adhesive that bonds the film to the window, allowing the film to reflect away the sun’s heat and allowing you to see out.

3M have taken this basic concept and developed it to provide unrivalled levels of performance. The Prestige range, engineered by 3M utilising the latest nano technology, consists of over 200 individual layers in a film no thicker than a 3M Post-it™ note!

The 3M Prestige range of window film block 97% of the sun's infrared rays and 99.9% of UV-A radiation.

Addressing the three major causes of fading

Direct sunlight can quickly damage the window blinds, curtains, wooden floors, carpet, soft furnishings and artwork in your home or office.

3M Window Films are designed to reduce the effects of solar heat and visible light and will block up to 99% of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, which are the single largest cause of fading. While no film can stop fading completely, ours dramatically slow the progress.

Fitting the correct 3M Window Film solution can not only enhance the comfort of the people within a building, it also addresses the major causes of fading, ending the need to continuously draw curtains or close blinds to protect the interior furnishings.
